Why Is In between My Toes White?

Have you noticed, in between your toes, the skin is white and in some cases, can be a bit smelly? This is called interdigital maceration, in some cases it can be confused as tinea pedis, also known as athlete’s foot.

Interdigital maceration is when there is too much moisture between the toes and this causes the skin to become white, and sometimes causes the skin to start peeling.

What is causing my skin between my toes to be white?

  •         Not drying between the toes after showering or being at a swimming pool or spa.
  •         Staying in a swimming pool or spa for a long period of time.
  •         Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
  •         Applying cream between the toes.

What should I do to stop this occurring?

  •         Dry thoroughly between the toes.
  •         If maceration is present use tea tree oil or methylated spirits between the toes after showering to dry the skin out.
  •         Change your socks during the day if you suffer from hyperhidrosis.
  •         Wear appropriate footwear.
