Why You Should Be Wearing Thongs Around Public Pools This Summer?

As the warmer months are approaching, going to the beach and to public pools is a fun and nice way to cool off and also do a little bit of physical activity.

Although it is a fun activity, you need to be careful as Tinea and Onychomycosis love the warm, wet environments and can be very contagious. Fungal Infections are common at this time of the year, as more and more people are walking around public pools and showers with their bare feet.

If there is a crack in the skin or nail, it is an easy entry portal for Tinea to get in. Tinea presents as a red, itchy and scaly rash on the feet or itchy cracking skin between the toes.

Fungal Nail Infections, also known as Onychomycosis, presents as discoloured, thick, crumbling nails, quite often present with an odour.

To prevent both Fungal Nail and Skin Infections from occurring, we highly recommend you wearing thongs in public showers and around public pools and taking them off just before getting into water and then putting them straight back on when getting out of the water.
