Almost daily at our clinic we have patients entirely disheartened by their fungal nails. Often times they feel embarrassed at the unsightly look of their nails and are “annoyed” that to their best efforts, treatments are slow to work and in many cases, the treatments seem to be ineffective.
Treatment typically involves daily application of a topical nail lacquer, cream/lotion or sprays which take months or even years to treat. Oral antifungal medications can be prescribed by a GP however they are not suited to everybody and come with some known serious side effects.
Finally! A new system available to Medical Pedicure’s Podiatrists’ may be the answer!
The PACT system is a photodynamic therapy, which has been used successfully in many areas of medicine.
Our PACT system uses a gel to selectively seek out and destroy the fungal spores under a photodynamic light.
The great news is no significant side effects have been found to effect patients and it can be used on pregnant and breastfeeding women.
The small downside is the nail is removed, but the upside is, in most cases a fungus free nail grows back.
For more information on this system now available please look for PACT in our services pages.
